Skype Brings HD Video Calling To Your Living Room

Skype is perhaps that one key service on which multiple important new media depend to make their daily itineraries work. Without it, online new media outfits would never be able to hold conferences as easily TV stations do at a miniscule fraction of the cost. TV stations use live satellite uplinks. Those are expensive, as in you will sell all your possessions but will never make it kind of expensive. High speed internet is not that expensive and for businesses, hiring a high bandwidth line is actually profitable because of the increase in productivity. This is where services like Skype comes in. But so far, all of this has been confined to laptops and computers. You had to sit in front of your tiny desktop/laptop screen and enjoy the chat. Now you can liberate your chat from the confines of your computer and enjoy it in HD (720p) on your new LG or Panasonic Internet connected HDTV.

Skype’s service is now being integrated into new-age HDTV’s that can connect to the Internet directly and have their own HD webcams built in. This basically means you can now have calls between two living rooms in 720p. The TVs will support all the normal Skype features so you can have free Skype-to-Skype calls along with free incoming calls and voicemail services.

This of course means that Skype has actually built HD support into their client and can now support hi-def video streaming through its client. I know a lot of online media outfits are jumping excitedly at this new development. This new addition also means that Skype’s HD service is available for normal PC users as well. And you don’t have to have a cutting edge machine to enjoy HD video streaming. but high bandwidth connection is probably going to be necessary.

To enable the largest number of PCs possible with HD video calls, there are new webcams en route via faceVision and In Store Solutions. These cameras have the video processing built into them so that the system is not burdened with processing HD footage. This also ensures that PCs without the necessary amount of processing power can also enjoy HD video calls. The price of these webcams have not been declared yet but you can rest assured that at  least a few of them will be on display at CES this year, which starts from the 7th Jan’10.
