Motorola seems to be trying realty hard to make a come back. The company who invented the mobile phone has been out of the bigger scene for far too long. They have made a significant impact with Droid but their other offerings are well and truly forgettable. They are probably going to try to correct this by bringing out a new internet-based handheld device. It apparently make calls too.
Meet the Motorola Sholes Tablet. Yes, Sholes was the code name for the Droid but this code name has a tablet attached to it that reflects its difference from all the other phones at that level. The rumors about this device, which has not been officially announced by Motorola, have been flying around for quite some time now. But it was mostly speculation, other than the fact that there is a phone like this.
Recently, Chinese Android fans have managed to get hold of the real specs (hopefully) and a few real clear shots of the device. And if they are correct, this is going to be a device that a lot of people will lust after.
Let’s start with the fact that it has an HDMI port! Yes, a handheld device that has an HDMI port, so that you can display your videos on large screen TVs. The phone can also apparently shoot HD video at 720p. The camera on the Sholes Tablet is said to be 8MP, whilst the one on the Droid is 5MP and looks really bad. The camera is supported with a Xenon LED flash.
The screen is 3.2inches with an 800×480 pixel count. It will support UMTS/HSPA. The phone is powered by a 550MHz processor, which also powers the Droid. So it essentially has the soul of the Droid. Well, the fact that they share a code name should’ve given that away.

The Sholes Tablet doesn’t seem to have a QWERTY keypad like the Droid though. So it is all touchscreen all the way. The OS is said to be Android and there is no reason to think otherwise. Not only is it currently the best bet for any phone maker who isn’t Apple, it is also something that Motorola has fully embraced. All their recent phones have been based on the Android platform.
