The iPhone has been becoming the main handheld gaming machine for many people as more and more people start to make great games for the platform. This time, we have EA Games Mobile releasing an all time favorite of board game lovers everywhere — Monopoly — on the iPhone. Other than, we have a great little DJ app to talk about which really makes things fun for iPhone users and lovers.
While porting the game to iPhone, EA Games developers have changed things around a bit. You will not get a localized version of the game like many people are used to. Instead you will get great international cities to deal with. The game has multiplayer options over Bluetooth and WiFi. If you are planning to play with more than one person at a time, you have to use the WiFi. For one-on-one game play, you can connect with the other player over Bluetooth. You can also play on just on phone by passing the phone around.
To roll the dice, you have to shake your phone and moving the pieces is as simple as tapping on the screen. With such a great touchscreen based platform, it was only a matter of time before great board games came to the iPhone and it is happening already. Just a while back we had the famous settlers of Catan arriving on the iPhone. The Monopoly iPhone game is selling for $4.99 on the app store.
Then we have the music related apps on the iPhone. A Touchscreen means you can have absolutely any interface that you can dream up. So now you have all sorts of apps that mimic real life equipment or have innovative interfaces for new age sounds. So with these things happening, could Dj apps have been far behind?
There are already quite a few great Dj Apps in the app Store and now we have one more to enjoy. Amidio’s Touch Dj app utilizes something that has existed in professional Dj software for quite some time now — visual beat matching. What that means is that you get a waveform display of the songs that you are playing and you can then line up the beats visually.
With electronic music, this is easy because you will see constant peaks where the kick drum hits. Lining up two wave forms is no hassle at all. But of course, if you try to mix hip hop, break beat or rock, it will be a bit more difficult and you will have to listen in. Also, if you don’t listen to your songs, you will probably end up playing the wrong songs together.
