This week has been quite big with more leaks on the rumored Apple Tablet. The rumors are getting so strong and the circumstantial evidence is piling up so fast that the tablet like an inevitability now. In the mean time, Apple is also showing signs of an upcoming update to its line of iMacs, Mac Minis and the white Macbook. Google Wave is also inching closer to full public release.
Of course, that does not mean that Google Wave will not stay in beta for the next ten years! I am quite positive that it will. Google has already sent out 100,000 invitations on the 30th of September. More invites are coming in another batch this month. Although the initial number was 100,000, each invitee will be able to send out invitations. This makes me almost nostalgic, thinking about Gmail invite-only days.
Apple has been showing signs of an upcoming release on all quarters. Other than offering discounts, it has been telling its resellers that there will be constraints in the Mac Mini supply for now. Also, the iMacs are now running low on supply. Everyone is thus quite sure that new Macs are on the way. There have been rumors that Apple will surprise people with October 19th date. But the last time I had heard it was the 22nd. Looks like we will find out soon.
Apple has a way of remaining secretive even about the most obvious things on earth. So when it comes to the tablet, it is obvious that they will remain as secretive as possible. But even they cannot contain the tell-tale signs of something new on the horizon. Recent news has come out from Gizmodo that Apple has been inviting publishers of major magazines and newspapers to view and talk about a new product that would use their content. Apple wants to put the content on the iTunes Store for selling.
Looks like Apple wants to redefine print completely over time. Right now they are talking with these publishers so that they can alter the format of the content to suit this new device. In the meantime, Apple is also apparently gathering a lot of books at Cupertino. Right now they are probably looking to digitize them only but in the future it is obvious that they would want to draw from video, audio, hyperlinks and animation in order to completely redefine how we read.
