The great new features in Miro 2.5

Miro LogoMiro has recently released Miro 2.5 with a host of new features. Today we take a look at what has been getting people so very excited about Miro.

Miro is an open source project. It is a software that is meant for aggregating all the video that you watch online and for downloading it all to your computer. Is completely free and cross-platform. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux.

In version 2.5, Miro has gone HD. You can now watch HD content on Miro via the various HD video podcasts and the HD options in places like YouTube. You will never have to worry about playing a video file because Miro comes jam-packed with video codecs to let you play almost any video format you can think of.

You can create playlists of Videos and make it so that Miro plays non-stop videos for you, on after another. The 2.5 version brings a beautiful new interface that makes it easier to control and organize your videos. If you ever run out of place on your system, you can use Miro to move your entire library to an external location like an external hard drive. Advanced organizing features allow you to create topi-specific playlists and folders.

The central feature of Miro is that is acts as a podcatcher for videos and this it does seamlessly. You can subscribe to any standard XML feed and Miro will take care of the rest. It can also handle BitTorrent just as if it was a feed. You can download a video torrent and watch it from within Miro without having to use anything else. Everything is simply added to your library.

You can now detach the video to watch it in a separate window so that you can multitask within Miro. Advanced database structure in Miro 2.5 also makes for faster searches and more efficient indexing. You search through live streams, podcasts and online streaming videos as well. You can download videos from YouTube. It also features disk management whereby you can allot a certain amount of disk space to be reserved so that Miro never downloads videos when there is low disk space.

Miro remembers the state of every video, which means when you pause a video and return to it later it will start playing from where you had left it paused. Miro has quit being elitist and now supports Video as well as audio podcasts. Audio Podcasts get a separate section in the sidebar and within Miro.
