Years ago there were only really two browsers that anyone on the net used – Internet Explorer or Netscape. Then along came Opera, and Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Flock… today there’s a lot to choose from, and despite the ravings of the occasional fanboy or developer, the choice for users has never been better. However, all this choice has meant that many of us have a number of different  browsers one computer.

Maybe you use Firefox for your main browser but use Opera when you need extra battery life. Maybe you like the idea of chrome and use it occasionally but don’t want to do any heavy browsing until it’s been developed further. Maybe you have a favourite browser that doesn’t like to display all your favourite pages properly. However you personally manage your web browsing, there’s one thing almost all of us use on a daily basis: bookmarks.

And trying to organise bookmarks across different browsers can be a pain. Yes, most have bookmark exporting and importing options, but some of these don’t work as well as they could and many could lead to messy translations of your otherwise perfect bookmarks. One solution to this problem is Transmute, a bookmark converting program.

Using Transmute couldn’t be simpler – you just point it towards the direction of your source browser and then the browser you would like all of your bookmarks to be sent and in less than a second, Transmute is done. It can even integrate and sort your bookmarks as well as backup and synchronise existing collections. Transmute is available in both a free and pro version, although the free version offers all the functionality the average user should ever need.
