Never Forget Attachments Again

We’ve all done it – sent off work to a friend or business partner with a long email about all the changes and updates we’ve made and then clicked send, turned off and waited a day only to get an email back politely informing us that we’ve forgotten to attach the file. At best it’s mildly embarrassing and at worst it could mean missed deadlines – so to avoid all that, there’s Forgotten Attachment Detector.

Google’s Chrome 2.0 Review

Google Chrome 2.0 is finally public

Google Chrome 2.0 is finally public

Google Chrome 2.0 has been in the testing phase for quite some time now and Google has finally thought is time to release it to the general public.

So here’s the bottom line right at the top – it is really, truly, extremely fast but there are still some features missing that we’d like to see in it.

But don’t get your wires in a bunch just yet because there are still some new features that makes like a lot easier. There is the full screen mode browsing, a blessing for netbooks. And there is also the middle mouse button auto-scrolling to make your life easier.

There is a smooth zooming feature that allows you to zoom in to the entire page and not just text. In addition to this, the form field resizing feature is now more useful with an auto-fill feature. There is also the option to drag tabs out of the browser and place side-by-side, useful for comparing between two pages.

Speed is the name of the game.

The best part is the speed and it is proven. Before this, Chrome was still slightly behind the fastest, which was Apple’s Safar 4 Beta. Now however, Chrome has really come to its own in the speed department. Benchmark test results have been published all over the net and it seems like Chrome was just barely behind Safari in terms of Sunspider JavaScript benchmarks and such tests.

However, now the Chrome is much faster than any other browser and the benchmark points confirmed this fully. But it seems like the memory footprint is still as much as before, with the Chrome around 30+MB and Safari around 40+MB to display an average webpage. These tests were carried out mainly on Core 2 Duo Machines running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Chrome 2 has a very fast launch time and the difference can be felt instantly. It just feels a lot faster and smoother regardless of the task being performed, be it surfing through web pages, using Gmail or Google docs. Now the obvious question is what is still not implemented.

Clipstart from Riverfold software is a great video organizing for Mac users

With the advent of smaller and more affordable video cameras, most people these days are ending up with almost s many video clips as photos. These are usually short video clips that are smaller in size but with so many on your hard disk it can be very hard to find one specific video. So there are many apps in the market that have way too many features and are very glitzy and packed to the gill with features. But what most of them lack is a simple way to tag and categorize your files. Most of the time it so happens that you get too many options and it gets all cluttered for you to be able to do anything properly.

Also, as the number of videos increase, most top-heavy solutions will slow down to torturous speeds. This is something that has been the primary complaint of a lot of people. Sure a lot of softwares use amazing visual effects and offer spectacular UI experience. But once you have hundreds and thousands of clips to move through, you need something else.

This is where Clipstart by Riverfold Software comes in. It is not your average glitzy video organizer and it is not feature rich. Instead, it is a minimalistic software that was made to order, to suit specific needs. Its main job is to organize videos, tag them and upload them to Flickr or Vimeo. It has very basic editing features and the interface is simple and snappy. It is a Mac OS Only app (Universal Binary and Power PC). Continue reading ‘Simple Tool To Organize Video Clips On Your Mac’

Protect Yourself From Infected USB Drives With USB WriteProtector

Protect your USB drive from Infection

Protect your USB drive from Infection

USB thumb drives or just regular drives have made our digital lives extremely convenient. They have made carrying data that much easier and safer from damages. CDs just don’t match up to these drives because they can hold much more data, are not easily damaged like optical discs and above all, they are easily carried anywhere. This has made these drives hot favorites amongst all kinds of people. This convenience has not escaped the notice of the hackers and malware authors.

There are several malwares that use these flash drives and removable drives to spread themselves from one person to another. Here’s how it works – every time you plug in your thumb drive into a system, the system reads and writes on the drive. If the system is infected, the malware/s will copy themselves on to your drive and will write something called  ‘autorun.inf’. This is the file that Windows uses to figure out if there is a program that needs to be run when a CD or a drive is plugged in. So the malware tells windows to execute the malware file and the malware will install itself as soon as you plug your drive in before you know what hit you.

Brilliant iPhone App Rejected, Again

Another day, another rejection by Apple or so it seems these days. This latest one is seriously pushing the limits of “may be used for objectionable content” because the app in question was meant for downloading and formatting e-texts from Project Gutenberg. Yes, it is hard to see why that is objectionable because everything on Project Gutenberg is legally free. The “objectionable content” here is the availability of a well-known and respected ancient Indian text that deals with the sexual acts between man and woman.

The App Reviwer searched specifically for Kamasutra

The app itself has an impressively detailed and clean interface, the kind that Apple and any Mac user would appreciate. This app, called Eucalyptus, uses the iPhone’s capabilities to render a visually rich reading experience. It uses “high quality fonts and industry-leading typesetting routines” to give off a very realistic look, making it a pleasure to use. Reading a book on Eucalyptus is almost similar to reading a real book and that is more that what can be said for Stanza and Kindle for iPhone. And as For Classics, this app (Eucalyptus) leaves it and the others far behind in terms of looks and the user interface.  Continue reading ‘Brilliant iPhone App Rejected, Again’
